If you ask ChatGPT to “find me a job,” it has little to work with. A title and location help; your experience and the conditions you would turn down help more. If you already have a posting, skip the search and start with its link. ChatGPT needs a connected tool to send an application; a conversation about a role does not send one.
Before the first prompt, decide which locations, work arrangements, and kinds of role you would actually accept. Bring a resume or describe your experience if you want a fit assessment. A search can start without one, but the agent cannot compare a role with facts it has not seen.
Give it a search you would recognize
Tell Job Agent what sort of role you want and what would make a result unusable. This request is specific enough to start a useful conversation:
Find product designer roles in Boston. I want hybrid or remote work and roles that ask for two to five years of experience. Show me which requirements I meet and which ones need a closer look.
Share your resume or describe your work before asking which jobs fit. Job Agent needs that background to explain why a requirement matches your experience. Its search covers a limited set of employers today. You can paste a link from another source when a role catches your eye.
Search currently covers Greenhouse-hosted openings. A result is a lead, not proof that a job is still open or that you qualify. Open the employer’s posting to check its current details. If a company uses another hiring system, a pasted link can still start a fit discussion, though the application form may be unsupported.
Ask what the match is based on
For a promising role, ask: “Which requirements can I support with my experience, and which ones need me to confirm something?” Read the posting alongside the answer. Location, seniority, work authorization, and required skills can change your decision even when the title looks right.
A fit check helps you decide where to spend time. It cannot predict an employer’s response. If you want a closer look at the comparison itself, read how to match your resume to a job description.
Ask Job Agent to separate three things in its answer: requirements backed by your experience, gaps in the material you shared, and eligibility or logistics you still need to confirm. A missing skill on a resume may be something you have done but omitted. A work authorization question needs a factual answer from you; it cannot be inferred from a fit score.
Once you choose a role, ask Job Agent to create or tailor a resume from your real work. Read the new version before using it. Check dates and job titles first, then look for skills or accomplishments it may have described too strongly.
Tell it when to stop
“Prepare this application for me to review” selects Copilot. Job Agent fills and checks a supported form, then stops before submission. “Apply to this job when the application is ready” selects Autopilot. It checks the form and submits only if it can complete the application; otherwise, it reports what is missing or uncertain. The mode comparison covers when each request makes sense.
Keep an eye on anything an employer will read as a fact about you. A degree, employer, authorization status, or achievement must come from your own information. Job Agent is in beta, works only in ChatGPT Desktop, and does not yet show its activity in your FrogHire.ai dashboard.
